156 W. Main Street, Glenwood, IL
Year: 2014
Village Cemetery is one of our favorite local haunts. We look forward to seeing this one every year, and it's easy to get to for us as it's right down the street from Horror Tourer home base.
As one might expect, Village Cemetery is - wait for it - a cemetery display. The property has a lot of space and it is used quite effectively. From tombstones to crypts to coffins to a hearse being pulled by a couple of skeletons, Village Cemetery has a little of everything. Many oft he figures and tombstones are homemade and change every year. This year featured the addition of a floating ghost inside a small crypt and a creepy burnt figure in a real coffin. Additionally, numerous favorites from previous years appeared as well, including the headless bridal couple, a creepy caretaker looking person, and some type of moving animal that looks like a cross between a dog and a wolf that is eating a human heart. The display continues down the main driveway and along the other side of the property, and includes figures hanging in trees, standing along the house, and leaning on the faux wrought iron fence which surrounds everything. Over the front of the display is a metal arch with the words "Village Cemetery" on it, just in case anyone was wondering where they were at. Some great lighting and smoke effects complement the display, and the owners are often found outside in full costume, patrolling the grounds and potentially frightening unsuspecting visitors. All in all, it's a great display, and a good example of some great ingenuity and creativity on the part of the owners. Like numerous other haunts, Village Cemetery also collects donations for a good cause - Best Buddies Pet Pantry - which provides food for dogs whose owners can't provide for them. Check it out - you'll be glad you did! |
