366 E Hickory, Kankakee,IL
St. Pat's Haunted High is a pay haunt located in Kankakee, IL. This haunt has been operating since 1999 in a former high school that is said to be actually haunted, most recently by the spirit of a former haunt worker who used to dress up as Leatherface.
The haunt consists of multiple floors and rooms in the high school building, several outside walkthroughs, and a dark maze in the school basement. Additionally, the haunt always features multiple live actors outside of the building who are known to not only walk up to people passing by on the street, but also to follow visitors all the way to their cars.
Despite the fact that St. Pat's is staffed mostly by younger teens (with some adults), the sets are impressive, with new things to see each year, and all of the actors stay in character throughout. One of the highlights of St. Pat's is that they come up with clever ways of creating scares, including actors that hide in the ceiling or blend in with the walls. Additionally, the haunt is quite long, lasting between 25-40 minutes, depending on how many people are ahead of you, so there is good value for the money.
One thing to note: St. Pat's is very popular, and crowds grow large very quickly. Try to arrive just after opening time, or on a Sunday to avoid long lines. If you do arrive and find a long line, they offer a front of the line pass for double the admission price. Even with the fast pass, this haunt is still cheaper than many pay haunts that are shorter, so it's well worth the extra cost.
Overall, St. Pat's is consistently good, and offers quality haunting for a more than reasonable price. Although Kankakee can be a bit of a drive, if you can combine St. Pats with other haunts in the region it is well worth the trip.

year: 2011
For 2011, St. Pat's featured some new displays, including a voodoo swamp populated by skeleton like figures, Freddy Krueger in a coffin, a haunted living room with secret exit behind the fireplace, and a homicidal clown in the school basement.
Additionally, the live actors inside and outside were particularly good, with one actor crawling half on and half off of the ceiling, dropping down in front of and behind unsuspecting visitors, and a clown that looked just like John Wayne Gacy patrolling outside. Gacy clown focused right in on :Laura, following her around outside while we waited for Paul (who got loast as usual) to come out of the haunt. Despite Paul's eventual reappearance, Gacy clown didn't give up, and instead followed Laura all the way to the car, dragging his large knife on the ground behind him. Laura was never so happy to get out of a haunt than she was this night! |

year: 2012
2012 featured some of the same rooms as 2011, albeit in different locations, but also added some new and interesting rooms as well. One of the best rooms was a swamp, complete with running water, that visitors had to travers via a wooden bridge. Under the bridge was a skeleton floating in green water with laser effects dancing across it.
Other rooms included a funeral parlor scene with a rather creepy looking corpse (see photo at right), a radioactive area complete with chainsaw wielding mutants, and a giant actor playing Leatherface who surprised visitors on their way into the dark maze. Additionally, this year had some great outside wait entertainment, including a giant devil figure on stilts who stood still until people got close, then made them all run away, and the three actors pictured in the first photo, all of whom prowled around outside looking for victims. Overall, another great year for St. Pat's. All of the Tourers are looking forward to 2013! |
