Souls of the Forsaken is a former home haunt in Plainfield that the Tourers have been to a couple of times. Unfortunately, due to various issues, the home haunt has been scaled down to a yard display. The good news is that there has been no drop in quality at all. This is an elaborate yard display that is fun to look at and enjoy, with just the right amount of creepiness.
The entire setup is cemetery themed, and features a prominent cemetery gate with rusted lock and warning sign on the front. The gate also has a real metal archway (made from steel) that spells out "cemetery" in case the tombstones and various bodies inside were not a big enough clue! The font gate is accentuated by a large simulated wrought iron fence with elaborate end posts, making for a very effective overall look. Inside the cemetery are various ghouls, most of them animated in some form, including several zombies (male and female) and our favorite, a hanging man in a large tree at the back of the display. Additionally, the cemetery features various humorous tombstones, including one that says "there's room for you" and one for a Mr. "Dusty N. Crumblin." The entire display is complemented with eerie colored lights, flickering electronic candles in front of each tombstone, smoke and fog effects, and creepy music. All in all, the combination makes for a setup that really creates a creepy vibe, especially if you are standing in front of the gates as darkness falls and all is quiet on the street where the display is located.
As a final display element, there is a large glowing green sign proclaiming the name of the haunt. Overall, despite the loss of the home haunt portion, Souls of the Forsaken is still highly recommended, both for its creativity and for it's effective use of available space. It's also not high on the gore or very "in your face," so it would be fun for families as well. Be sure to drop by if you're in the area as we guarantee you will enjoy it. |
