18613 Page Avenue, Homewood, IL
Year: 2014
Nightmare on Page is a haunt that we Tourers recently discovered that also happens to be very close to Horror Tourer home base. As regular readers of our reviews might know, we love visiting haunts close to home, and it's always nice to have even more to add to our list.
Located in Homewood, Nightmare on Page is a large yard and garage display that actually takes up two front lawns. Half of the setup is very colorful, with marge figures and bright colored lights, making it seems more Disneyesque and family friendly, while the other half, located on the neighbor's front lawn, is more of the gruesome side. Nestled in the middle is a garage display that pay homage to the Walking Dead, with a small zombie girl standing near a giant industrial fan. On the left (less gruesome) side are various tombstones, including some with classic comical inscriptions, some with full size figures standing behind them, as well as faux stone walls, whereas the right features open coffins, skeletons, body parts hanging from a wooden rack, as well as figures in the windows of the house. Last year these figures resembled a Victorian funeral setting, and one creature in the doorway was eerily lifelike. Atop the garage is a small demonlike figure, who looks down upon visitors and sits just above a sign naming the location as "Page Manor" - he's a bit creepy and we're told he's the unofficial mascot of the display. He certainly is memorable! In addition to the display this year, there was also an actual home haunt. We're told that this haunt only happens when Halloween falls on a weekend, so this year's was a rare event. We were fortunate enough to be given a walkthrough of the entire haunt when we visited, even though it wouldn't be open until Halloween night. We're happy we were able to see it, as Halloween night was simply awful in terms of weather. Cold and rainy and windy - we even got some snow! Thus, we weren't able to see the haunt when it was open, but from what we saw on the walkthrough it would have been fun! |
