Necropolis on Nippert is a yard display located in Romeoville. 2012 marked the first time that the tourers really explored the Romeoville area, so we were not sure what to expect. Overall, the area was hit and miss, although there were enough yard displays and other haunts to warrant future trips. Necropolis on Nippert was one of those displays that fell into the average category.
While we generally grade somewhat more easily when rating yard displays as opposed to home haunts or professional haunts, we also look for displays that have something unusual, be it a different theme, a unique prop, or a good use of available space. Necropolis on Nippert had a pirate themed display, and featured some decent looking pirates, as well as the central figure of an animatronic ghost enclosed in the eponmyous necropolis. Additionally, there were some scattered tombstones and a werewolf type character. While the Necropolis did make good use of the limited space available, and while the animated ghost figure was well done, there just was not a lot there. This doesn't make for a bad display, just an average one, and not one that someone would travel a long distance to see by itself. Fortunately, there are others close by, so it's worth it to make the Necropolis one of several planned stops in the Romeoville/Joliet area, or for a quick visit if you live close by. The lack of live actors and overly gruesome displays makes it more suitable for younger visitors as well. |
