103 S. Midland Avenue, Joliet, IL
year: 2013
Madness on Midland is one of those yard displays that keeps getting better each year. It's located in Joliet, home to several other great hone haunts/yard displays, including Count Kuhadja's and Agony, and we make a point of visiting it each time we are in the Joliet area. 2013 turned out to be our favorite year so far. Madness on Midland has a lot of property to work with, and they manage to cover most of it with props of some kind. To give you an idea of how big the yard that hosts the display is, there is a full-size SUV are part of the setup and it barely takes up any room at all. The entire lawn is covered with props, from tombstones to life size figures ranging from the famous (Freddy/Jason/Mike Myers) to the more general (clowns/ghosts/skeletons). Many of the figures form mini-scenes, such as a car crash, a cannibal cookout, and even a ghoulish wedding party. There is so much to see it takes a while to take it all in, and you need to look everywhere, including the trees, to make sure you don't miss anything. The night we visited the theme music from Halloween was playing, and we spotted not one, but two Mike Myers figures in the display. One was way back in a tree in the background, but the other was front and center, bathed in eerie light with large knife poised to strike. As regular readers might know, anything with Mike Myers if good in our book, and having two of them is even better! In addition, there was a really creepy clown figure in the front door of the main house - from the distance it was hard to see if he was real or not, and zooming in on him only made him creepier. He had a very unusual look to him - kudos for a great prop!
Overall, Madness on Midland offers a lot to look at and experience, and is not too scary for those who might be worried about such things. It's great to try and spot all of the famous figures they have in the display as well as enjoying the cool original figures and scenes. Make a point of visiting - I know we will! |
