Kenton Avenue Graveyard is a yard display on the north side of Chicago with a pirate theme. Although there is not much there, what is there is entertaining and creative. The front portion of the display includes a talking pirate voice, some pirate booty, a cannon, and some rum chests, as well as a guillotine, while the main portion of the display features a large model pirate, complete with sail and pirate flag.
While we have seen pirate displays before, the interesting thing about this one is that the ship looks as though it is underwater. There is a large hole in the side through which can be seen some glowing neon sea creatures, including lobsters, crabs, and an eel. It's a nice spin on a standard theme. Rounding out the pirate ship area is a large treasure chest and a skeletal pirate hiding in the bushes. While there is not a huge amount to see, what is there is creative and well lit. It's worth a trip, especially if you live close or are in the neighborhood. Plus, if you have kids, they might like the pirate theme as well. |
