!Interfear was another 2013 first for the Tourers. This was a first year haunt, so it was a first for the operators and a first for the Tourers. In short,. it was well worth the trip, and ranks up there with some of the best haunts we have been to.

As we often say, do not judge a haunt by its location or by its hype. While some might shy away from home haunts because of the idea that, because they are held around someone's home they are not as good as "professional" haunts. We are here to tell you that if you believe that, you are missing out. There are numerous examples of fantastic home haunts, including Resurrection Graveyard in Evergreen Park, Midnight Terror in Oak Lawn, Agony in Joliet, and Interfear that easily rival some pay haunts. In a number of cases we prefer to go to a home haunt over a pay haunt.

Why is this, we hear you ask? Well, one trip to Interfear might answer that question for you.
From the moment you walk up you can see the quality of the haunt. The front entrance resembles a run down shack in the woods, and informs visitors (as if they needed to be told) that the place is haunted.

Visitors are greeted by a live actress who takes their tickets and sends them on in.
While we were waiting a group of younger girls ran screaming from the exit of the haunt, which is always a sign of an entertaining visit! Once inside, visitors travel through a large corridor lined with corn stalks, which includes a moving wall section, then along several other scenes, including a spider's lair, butcher shop, clown area, zombie area, and even a very odd looking area made up of laser lights and swirling fog. All of the scenes are very detailed, and actually fun to walk through even without any live actors.

A couple favorites included the giant spider area which also had a crawling spider moving across the wall (which we have never seen before), and the butcher shop area, which feature both hanging human skins on the wall and a completed "skinned" human face used as a decoration - it's the little things that really make a great haunt, and Interfear had a lot of them!

Commentary

In addition to the great scenes, the live actors inside the haunt were also excellent. Most had creative and detailed makeup, and the actor in the laser/fog outdoor area was particularly excellent. Not only was the room set up so that visitors could completely miss the actor, the actor was huge and the costume was highly detailed and most surprising (no, we won't spoil it for you). Other great actors included a zombie-like female actor who jumped out at us from the side of a scene, then disappeared and appeared ahead of us in another, a couple of creepy but hysterical clowns (including one appropriately named "Sparky" who sent sparks flying off of a metal grate as we passed by, and finally the almost obligatory chainsaw guy. Everyone seemed very into what they were doing, and as a result we not only enjoyed what was coming at us, we were looking forward to see what else there was around the corner!

Overall, this is a top notch haunt. For entertainment value alone it can't be faulted. We dare you to find a professional haunt that has the same level of fun and entertainment for the price - you won't. That's not to say professional haunts aren't fun - they certainly are. We are just saying don't pass up any home haunts because you think they somehow can't be as enjoyable as others. They can be and they are.

We loved our fist visit to Interfear, and we thank everyone involved for putting on a great show. We laughed, we got startled a couple of times, and overall we had a lot of fun. Highly recommended!
