Haunted Hell is one of several excellent yard displays in Lansing, Illinois. In fact, it's right across the street from a great one, Haunted 4 Life, and just a couple of blocks from another, Misdom Manor, so if you're out and about in the Lansing area, you can get a lot of quality haunt experiences in a short period of time.
Haunted Hell consists of a large number of static and animated props, all set up on the front lawn of the home. The name of the haunt is displayed prominently on the side of the house, and the center of the display features a large cemetery archway, adorned with creepy skull images and even a giant spider. As mentioned, many of the props are animated, and include a Grim Reaper type figure with souls of victims in its chest, a skeleton of a departed soul in a wooden coffin, and even an unfortunate electrocution victim. There is also a large wooden hearse, complete with pine box on the inside and a skeleton propped up on top, a headless horseman type character, a grinning hooded skeleton behind a tombstone, a Draculaesque character, a wolf man in a cage hanging from a tree, and even the Creeper from the movie Jeepers Creepers hanging by the front porch. Our favorite of the display is a creepy guy in a real metal coffin. The way he is positioned makes it seem as though it is a real person. We had a hard time figuring out if he was reall last year, as there was a strobe light directly on the figure which gave the illusion of movement, but even this year, without the strobe, it still seemed like this figure was staring right at us. You can even see the look in one of the photos we took (at right). The entire display is highlighted by some excellent lighting, bathing the scenes in various colors, from red to green to white. Smoke and fog effects highlight the mood even more, and give the entire experience an eerie quality that is made all the more unsettling when the street is quiet and one is walking amongst the setup. Haunted Hell is a quality setup that we enjoy very much, and it is well worth a look. The hard work and dedication to detail on the part of the haunt owner really show through, and we are happy to see another great setup in the Southland area. Check it out! |
