The Haunted Cemetery and Pirate Ship is a small but inventive display located in Crestwood, Illinois. The Tourers have visited this display several times over the years, and the 2013 setup is the most elaborate we have seen.
As the name implies, part of the display is pirate themed while another part is cemetery themed. The pirate side is the smaller of the two, featuring a hand designed miniature wood ship with lights, a couple of pirates and tombstones, and a rather cool pirate hanging from a tree. The other side of the display features the cemetery, the centerpiece of which is a large dilapidated fence with an arch in the center. The entire setup is guarded by a creepy skeletal caretaker, which watches over the cemetery, shovel in hand in case the need arises to dig some new graves. Inside the cemetery there are tombstones of various types, many of them humorous. Seom funny ones include "Mozart - decomposing", "Pardon my Dust," and "Where's Waldo" with a downward pointing arrow. Additionally, there is a large specter of death standing over some tombstones in the back and a female ghoul hanging from a large tree. Some nice lighting adds to the overall cemetery effect. While there are no animated props here, there was at least one that lit up in various patterns, and there are some cleverly worded graves to look at. It definitely would be worth a look if you live in the area or if you are passing by. WE hope that the cemetery continues to expand over the coming years, as we think 2013 has been its best year so far! |
