Grant's Graveyard is a haunt that, along with Krohn's House of Terrors and Fear on Fiona, forms a trilogy of great yard displays in Mokena. Visitors can easily get to all of them in the same night, and every one of them offers a lot to see for no cost. What could be better?
As visitors drive up, giant lights and a metal archway over the driveway give the title of the haunt, and from there visitors can choose one of several areas to begin their visit. The main portion of Gran'ts Graveyard covers the front yard of the property, and features many homemade props and life size figures. There are a number of clowns, including one with explosives strapped to his chest who threatens visitors with an explosion, and an entire carousel filled with creepy clowns that spin around and around. Additionally, there are skeletons, ghosts, witches hanging from the trees, Freddy versus Jason in the background, and even a mechanical dog.wolf creature that jumps out from a box. There's a lot of creativity on display here, and visitors are well advised to look closely as the display reaches far into the back area of the front yard as well. One of our personal favorites (besides Freddy Vs. Jason) was a skeltal Grim Reaper figure clutching a tombstone shaped like a cross - creepy, especially in the dark. The display also winds up along the walkway to the house, and visitors pass through an archway over which sometimes hovers a live actor in costume. There weren't any live actors present when we visited this year, but there have been several occasions where at least one of us was caught off guard by the hidden figure over the archway, or by another cleverly disguised figure hanging from a pole. Sadly, he wasn't there on our visit, either, but there was a non-moving representation of him on top of the garage. Special mention must be made of the little person in the clown mask who was most enthusiastic about chasing visitors. It made for a very fun visit.
The display also continues along the opposite side of the driveway, and features an unfortunatel electrocution victim along with giant lights that simply say "Boo!" It's a nice mix of the macabre and the humorous, and it's well worth a look. Overall, Grant's Graveyard is a fun time every year - there is always something new and different, and the displays that remain the same are done so well that it's always enjoyable to see them again. It's family friendly (except on some higts when live actors are known to run after visitors and even cars, causing lots of mayhem) and if you're in the Mokena area you owe it to yourself not to miss it!
