Evil on Everest was another new visit for the Horror Tourers in 2013. Much like Millstone Manor in Rolling Meadows, this one has a bit of a Disney/Haunted Mansion vibe going on, which makes it interesting on a different level.
The majority of the display consists of various elaborate tombstones, done in the style of a turn of the century Victorian cemetery. The biggest portion of the display is the large cemetery entrance gate, complete with imposing stone pillars and metal gate with chains and padlocks. A giant sign on the front of the gate proclaims that the cemetery is "closed to the living", An oval mirror-shaped decoration of the left lists the name of the display, and another on the right that gives the date of establishment at 2000. An old mailbox on the side gives the cemetery address as "1313 Evil" - another nice touch. The gate and the tombstones are all obviously crafted with care, and injected with doses of black humor, as evidenced by some of the amusing sayings on the tombstones. This, coupled with some colorful lighting, gives the entire setup more of a serene, peaceful, real cemetery feel, much like if one were to visit an old abandoned cemetery that time forgot. For those who like to admire creative setups but are wary of displays that are too scary, rest assured that, despite the "Evil" in the haunt name, there is nothing that will jump out at you here, nor is there any blood and gore. It's a perfect display for those who prefer their Halloween scares to be of the nonexistent variety, and there's enough to see here to please various types of visitors. |
