Evil on Avers was a brand new yard display that we visited in 2013. It was located close to Horror Tourers home base, and we always like to see new places that are close to us, so we made a point of visiting.
The setup is a mixture of the whimsical and the creepy, with lots of hay and corn stalks giving the entire setup a Thanksgiving/Fall like appearance in addition to the Halloween vibe.
It's our understanding that the majority of the props in this display are hand made, which really makes them stand out. Some of the more unusual ones include several gnomes carrying a wooden coffin, glow in the dark plants that are actually hands and large daisy-like flowers with skulls in the center of them, and a chained Jack-O-Lantern creature pulling a wagon of demonic children.
Our favorite port of the display was an odd-looking grinning Jack-O-Lantern with a devil face and pumpkins that formed horns on its head - it was just scary creepy enough to make us take a closer look, while not being too over the top scary.
Additionally, the entire display is bathed in various colored lights, including greens, blues, and oranges, each of which sets of certain sections of the display and provides an effective complement to the desired atmosphere.
Overall, Evil on Avers is an excellent display, and the fact that many of the props are hand made makes it even better. Our hats are off to the creators for all of their hard work. It's definitely a display where people can bring the entire family, as it's not gory or in your face, and it gives off a nice, warming Fall feel.
