619 N. Drury Lane, Arlington Heights, IL
Year: 2014
Another new display for this year was the Drury Lane Cemetery in Arlington Heights. Although it has "Cemetery" in it's name, this display was actually more of a mad scientist's lab.
Located right in the center of the lawn, this small setup featured an entire scene that played over and over again. It focused on a scientist supplying electricity to a creature lying on a slab, which then rose up and moved. The entire thing was animated and included light and sound effects as the electricity surged through the creature, as well as audio clips taken from the original Frankenstein where Dr. Frankenstein proclaims "it's alive!" In addition to the main portion, there was was also a wooden coffin propped up against the back wall that opened and closed as if something inside was trying to get out. While not large, it was certainly creative, and has some clever use of sound and light. The movement of the scientist was also quite realistic and looked like a real person from a distance. Well done! |
