Creatures of the Blackened Night is a brand new yard display for 2013, located in the southwestern suburb of Worth. For a first year haunt, it had some really good looking props and moody lighting.
Basically, the display fills the front yard of the home, and includes a fence all along the perimeter, covered with cobwebs, and a large bloody sheet hanging from a skull covered pole that tells visitors to stay away. Most of the figures in the yard are very large, and range from the more standard zombies and skeletons to some really odd looking creatures with misshapen faces, as well as the centerpiece - a large demon-headed animal creature that dominates the middle of the yard setup. There are creepy figures all around the display, and the more you look the more you see. Some standouts include a strange horselike creature with a top hat and large claws, a very creepy scarecrow suspended on the left hand side of the display, an eerie skeleton clad all in white, and even a wolf on the roof. Various floodlights illuminate the figures on reds, blues, greens, and oranges, giving the entire setup a spooky glow.
While none of the figures actually move, the lighting gives the impression that they just might. They are creepy, though, even without any movement. And since you can't have creepy without clowns, Creatures of the Blackened night has those, too, from a clown headed ghoul on the front of the house to a giant maniacal clown face staring at visitors from the front window. Overall, this an atmospheric and impressive first year yard display, and one we'd recommend checking out for sure. |
