more info:  Count Kuhajda's

Count Kuhajda's is an elaborate yard display in Joliet that we first visited in 2012. Although we had plans to visit in previous years, we never quite made it out there, so we wanted to make sure that we got out there in 2012. We were certainly glad we did! While a lot of home haunts and yard displays go the scary route, Count Kuhajda's combines a bit of scariness with a bit of Halloween coziness and a bit of comic relief to create a unique and enjoyable experience.

The front of the house is nicely lit and has numerous Halloween props, including a wolf man character, witches, skeletons, spider webs, and various other items. It all adds up to a nice, Fall/Halloween feel, especially if one visits in the evening when the crisp, clear scent of Fall is in the air.

The display continues along the side of the house, and is dominated by a cute bar setup, complete with amusingly labelled bottles and a skeletal biker bartender. It's not necessarily something one sees at the typical yard display, and it is indicative of the tongue  in cheek nature of Count Kuhajda's. Other interesting displays include Abdul the Dead Terrorist, complete with ten (one of two terrorist related displays we've seen - the other being at the Haunted Yard Display in Oak Forest), a creepy little girl, a floating ghost, and a group of dead hillbillies having a drink.

As mentioned, a lot of the displays at Count Kuhajda's have a comical spin on standard horror fare, turning what could be ordinary props into an interesting and amusing setup. The entire display makes great use of space, from the cozily decorated front yard to the well-laid out backyard. There is a lot to see, with many outstanding props. Additionally, the uniqueness factor is very high - we'd venture to say that you'd be hard pressed to find a display quite as unique as Count Kuhadja's.

If you're looking for something different this Halloween season, while still looking to be put in the Halloween mood, be sure to check out Count Kuhadja's. It's cute, funny, and above all entertaining! A most enjoyable display, and one that deserves a look One almost is tempted to pull up a chair, order a drink from the skeletal biker, and have a chat with the drunken hillbillies!
