The Boneyard is a great yard display located in Oak Lawn. The Tourers have been visiting this one since 2010, and it continues to get better year after year.
' Located on a corner lot, the Boneyard has plenty of front yard space for the setup, and it uses ti to full effect. Lots of props, both animated and static, dot the yard, including creepy clowns, animated jumping skeletons and other ghouls, the Grim Reaper, a haunted bridal couple and more. For 2011, the display was scaled back a bit, so there were no animated props, but for 2012 it was back in full force. Many of the props are handmade and feature interesting twists on the standard Halloween displays, such as a props that looks like Regan from the Exorcist, complete with head that lights up and spins around, but that pops up from a coffin in the ground rather than levitating on a bed as in the movie. There are also some store bought props, such as a life size animated Jason, that complement the rest of the homemade ones. In addition, one unique feature that the Boneyard has is a series of light-up jack-o-lanterns featuring the faces of famous movie characters, including Freddy, Jason, Michael Meyers, Chucky, Leatherface, and Beetlejuice - yes, Beetlejuice. They are also unusual in that they are white and not the traditional orange. The front yard display runs right up to the porch, which has its own share of decorations. Decorations also populate the garage windows and the roof of the house. Overall, there is a ton of stuff to see at the Boneyard, and since the display is wide open, it's easy to move along the displays and not get too close, which is good for younger kids. We highly recommend the Boneyard if visiting haunts in the Oak Lawn area. |
