Amhurst is one of those haunts that doesn't change much from year to year, at least in terms of set design. Yes, there are sometimes a few new rooms, but overall the layout stays the same, and after you've been there a few times you start to recognize it.
That's not to say that the design is bad at all - its' really quite good, with some nice attention to period detail. However, as the layout doesn't change much, the haunt really is made or broken by the acting and actors inside. Sometimes it's excellent, with actors everywhere, varied performances, and a lot of fun to be had. Other times, it's not so good.
This year's visit unfortunately fell into the latter category. On the night we went, there were not many actors, and most of them seemed to be of the same type of acting variety - namely jump out and scare you. There were some other actors who varied their performances, from creepy to just odd, but mostly it was room after room of similar things. Some rooms were completely empty of actors, which is unusual for Amhurst.
Overall, a nicely designed haunt with some good actors, but not as good as in previous years.
